Located where Highway 200 turns inland, this charming coastal village is the main hub for panga water taxis and the trailhead for the famous coastal jungle hike.

Boca de Tomatlán (distinct from Boca de Tomates to the north) is a vibrant traditional fishing enclave nestled in a deep river canyon. It represents the pivotal transition point in the bay's geography: here, the coastal highway turns inland into the mountains, meaning all beaches further south are roadless and accessible only by foot or sea. Boca's bustling wooden pier is the launch point for pangas heading to Colomitos, Las Ánimas, Quimixto, Majahuitas, and Yelapa.

How to get there

Scenic fishing village and river estuary 16 km south of PV; the main launch hub for southern boat-only beaches.

• Take the orange 'Boca de Tomatlán' bus from Basilio Badillo & Constitución in Romantic Zone (10 MXN, 30-35 min to the end of the line). Walk 200m down the hill to the river/pier.
• 25-30 min drive south on Highway 200. Paid secure parking lots available in town for ~100-150 MXN/day.
• Trailhead for the famous coastal jungle hike to Colomitos, Madagascar, and Las Ánimas (starts at the suspension bridge).
• Public panga water taxi pier with frequent departures to Colomitos (~100 MXN), Las Ánimas (~120 MXN), Quimixto (~140 MXN), and Yelapa (~180 MXN).

• The scenic coastal hiking trail to Colomitos and Las Ánimas starts at the footbridge over the river.
• Bring cash in Mexican Pesos for panga water taxis, as credit cards are not accepted on the boats.
• Park in secure paid lots in town (~100–150 MXN/day) if driving your own car.

Before you go

• Last return pangas from southern beaches back to Boca typically run between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM.
• The coastal trail requires closed-toe shoes and hydration; it is a real hike with steps and rocks.
